What is a Meckels Scan? Reason(s) for the Examination:

 

A meckels scan is used to help locate sites of bleeding in children.

 

Length of Exam:

Usually one hour.

 

Preparation:

None.

 

Description:

A medicine (Cimetidine or Tagamet) will be given to your child to decrease stomach acid secretion. A tracer will be injected in a vein, followed by one hour of imaging.
