What is a Nuclear Cystogram? Reason(s) for the Examination:
A nuclear cystogram is used to help look for urine back flow into the kidneys that predisposes to kidney and urinary tract infections. Look for urine leaks from the bladder, ureters and kidneys.

Usually one hour.
Preparation:
None. Young children who cannot hold still may require sedative medications, but we try not to medicate children if at all possible. Some children have unexpected responses to sedative medications and may move around more after medications.

Our specially trained nurses will insert a catheter into the child's bladder. Using the catheter, the bladder will be filled with a tracer and water. Images will be obtained while the child voids around the catheter or after the catheter has been removed.
