What is Oncoscint Scan for Ovarian Cancer or Colon Cancer? Reason(s) for the Exam:

 

Omcoscint scan (for ovarian cancer or colon cancer) is used to help identify site(s) of ovarian or colon cancer.

 

Length of Exam:

Two or three-part study. Initial tracer injection takes about 5 minutes. Return 48-72 hours later for 30 minutes of whole body imaging. Additional 30-60 minutes of rotating camera imaging performed on the same day or the next day.

 

Preparation:

Description:

Two or three-part study:  Day 1, the initial tracer injection takes about 5 minutes. Return 48 to 72 hours later for 30 minutes of whole body imaging. If there is not enough activity in the bowel, then another tracer (to show your blood vessels) will be injected followed by additional 30-60 minutes of rotating camera imaging of the abdomen and pelvis. If there is too much activity in the bowel, then the blood vessel tracer injection and imaging will be deferred until the day after you take a bowel cathartic.
