What is PET (Positron Emission Tomography) CT (Computed Tomography) Imaging?
OSF Saint Francis (Peoria) now has a "fixed" GE (General Electric) PET (positron emission tomography) CT (computed tomography) Scanner available in addition to the mobile GE PET/CT scanner serving OSF Saint Francis (Peoria), OSF St. James (Pontiac) and OSF Saint Mary (Galesburg) Medical Centers. These studies are interpreted by the Nuclear Medicine Specialist of Central Illinois Radiological Associates-- Dr. Charles Chen.
Methodist Medical Center has a Phillips PET/CT Scanner. Studies are read by Dr. Carter Young, and Dr. Stephen Smith at Methodist Medical Center. In addition, both Dr. Young and Dr. Smith provide both primary and over-read services for Shared Medical Service and MOS PET Service using General Electric and Siemens PET CT scanners. These companies provide services locally, regionally and nationally.
In order for PET CT scans to be scheduled, the patients must have one of the Medicare approved indications. Other indications must have medical insurance "pre-approval" before a PET/CT scan can be scheduled.
Please Note: We are currently only imaging with Fluorine-18 deoxyglucose (FDG), so please to do not request non-FDG PET studies.
